Professional Faculty/Instructor Development Funds Guidelines
Purpose and Overview
Provided by the Office of the Provost Fund for Excellence, these funds are intended to support professional development for professional faculty and instructors. The total pool of funds per fiscal year is $50,000. The funds will be made available twice per year: $25,000 available between July 1 and December 31, and an additional $25,000 made available between January 1 and June 30. Funding is awarded to individuals who meet the criteria and on a first come basis. The total number of awards will vary each year depending both on the number and size of the requests received.
The following guidelines and restrictions are in place to ensure distribution of funds to as many individuals and units as possible over time.
- Awards will be no more than $1,000.
- Funds are only made available if the home unit provides matching funds.
- The amount of the award will be dependent on the amount that will be matched by the unit.
- Individuals are eligible for one award per 3-year period.
- Units are eligible for three awards per year.
- Unit directors and heads (senior university leaders, deans, chairs/heads/directors and administrative unit directors) are ineligible.
Criteria for the use of Funds and Award Selection
The funds must be used for purposes related to the professional development of the recipient (registration fees, travel, etc.)
A commitment from the unit to provide matching funds is required.
Applications
Applications for awards will include details regarding the type of professional development (conference, webinar, etc.) and how it will contribute to the recipient's professional growth and the advancement of the University’s mission and goals.
Applications must be complete and must document the availability of matching funds from the applicant’s unit.
Application review, approval, and award notifications will be managed by the Office of the Provost. Questions may be directed to Amanda Ronay.
Applications received after award funds have been depleted will be returned and may be submitted in a future funding cycle.
Important Note
Award recipients have 60 days following the date of their professional development activity to access the funds. In every case, after 60 days, the award commitment will automatically be canceled, and the funds will be made available to another applicant.
