The Social Justice Education Initiative for faculty and staff at Oregon State University is an invitation to begin or continue, your social justice and equity journey.
With humor, empathy, and expertise we will engage in a self-reflective process that helps us answer these important questions:
The phrase "more curiosity, less judgment" is instrumental to social justice and equity work and is a guiding principle for the Social Justice Education Initiative
Launched by Academic Affairs in 2016, the Social Justice Education Initiative is intended to support the entire OSU professional community in meeting the critical goals of OSU’s Strategic Plan and our commitment to inclusive excellence. The Social Justice Education Initiative, or SJEI, provides facilitated learning opportunities, consultation, and coaching that specifically support achieving inclusive excellence across all OSU endeavors. SJEI is one of the many efforts currently working towards OSU's equity and inclusion goals and collaborates with many partners across the OSU community, below you can find links to our partners.
Staffed by one full-time director, SJEI provides interactive workshops that build effective community among faculty, graduate students, and staff that will positively impact outcomes for OSU students. The goal of the initiative is to increase the capacity for curiosity, communication, self-awareness, leadership, and growth. Since the launch of the program in Fall 2016, over 1800 faculty, staff, and graduate students have participated in SJEI workshops. This initiative plans to continue collaborations with other faculty to develop social justice curriculum and expand the coaching and consulting aspects to support institutional growth through social justice education.
