Susan Capalbo, Senior Vice Provost for Fauclty Affairs

Susan Capalbo serves as Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Professor of Applied Economics at Oregon State University. The Faculty Affairs portfolio has four thematic areas: Academic policies and procedures; Faculty recruitment, development, and diversity; Faculty personnel review, retention and promotion; Strategic initiatives and implementation of the university's strategic plan.

Effective academic policies and procedures are essential to unleashing the potential and creativity of the faculty. The SVP reviews and implements policies and practices in all areas of faculty and academic policies, with the objectives of creating the foundation to support a highly productive, diverse, and internationally recognized faculty, increasing accountability and measurable progress in diversifying OSU’s faculty, and retaining our highly-valued faculty. The Office of Faculty Affairs works with deans, chairs and search committees in supporting the recruitment, advancement, and retention of our reputational faculty and serves as a central resource for all newly hired faculty and leadership in their transition to the OSU community.

OSU strategic initiatives deliver impact to the OSU community, to Oregon and the world. Together with our strategic planning and assessment, these initiatives inform institutional decision-making and establish priorities for centrality, growth, and external support. Co-location of strategic initiatives in the Provost Office’s division of Faculty Affairs advances the synergies among university-wide investments that are consistent with developing distinctive academic programs and policies, fostering the preeminence of our faculty, and supporting student success.
